Long May holidays are ahead. All of Russia will go to their dachas to rest and prepare for the summer season. Meanwhile, the ticks have already begun their activity. The sanitary doctor of the Dobrolov company, Nikolai Dubinin, explained how dangerous these insects are and how to protect your summer cottage from these pests.
When is the best time to process the site?
In the Moscow region, the tick is activated in early spring - in March-April. From this moment, the parasites are dangerous both for pets living in the country, and so for humans. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out the first treatment in March - after the snow melts. In the fall, it is recommended to repeat the procedure to protect yourself from ticks until the end of the summer season.
However, work with acaricides should not be carried out during or before the rain. Sediments wash off preparations from plants where ticks live, greatly reducing the effectiveness of the poison. Another problem is that too many chemicals are washed off the plants into the soil in the rain. Their high concentration can harm the crops on the site.
It is optimal to spray drugs for blood-sucking parasites in the early morning, before 7:00, or late in the evening, after 21:00. Tick remedies are toxic. Therefore, it is recommended to spray at least three days before the family arrives at the site.
The most effective remedies for treating an area from ticks
For spraying plants on the site, both universal anti-insect preparations and specific acaricides (products developed to combat arachnids, including ticks) are used.
The chemicals of the universal group are good in that the agent can be used not only against bloodsuckers but also to combat annoying insects in the country: mosquitoes, ants and others. Their disadvantage is that they only affect adult ticks and larvae. Universal insecticides are unable to kill the eggs of the parasite.
Universal insect repellents include organophosphate insecticides, pyrethroids, and avermectins.
Specific drugs kill ticks at all stages of development - from eggs to adults. This group includes derivatives of sulfonic acids, benzylates, tetrazines and acarofungicides. The latter is available in the form of tablets or powder and effectively destroy both mites and fungi.
Tips for treating mites from the garden, country, garden, house or any other site
The only reliable way to get rid of parasites to protect humans and animals from tick bites is to spray the area with an acaricidal preparation. To do this, you will need a standard sprayer and the simplest protective equipment: a thick hooded robe or overalls, gloves, goggles and a respirator.
Our company provides professional services for the treatment of ticks at a low cost.
You can treat plants from ticks in a small area on your own. To do this, you must follow several rules:
- Do not poison work without protective equipment. The substances used to kill the tick are toxic.
- Prepare a solution of chemicals in strict accordance with the attached instructions.
- Do not store the prepared mixture - it can only be used immediately after preparation.
- Treatment for ticks on the site should be performed after warming, waiting for calm dry weather. In low humidity conditions, the mite crawls up the grass. Then poisons kill parasites more effectively.
- It is better to fight ticks in the morning or after 9 pm, making sure that it does not rain for the next 3 days.
- Ticks live on grass and trees, in bushes and on buildings located on the site at a height of up to one and a half meters. All these areas must be carefully processed, paying special attention to gazebos and plants near the recreation area and garden paths.
- Make sure that poisons against ticks do not get into the water of the pool and other artificial reservoirs (if there are any in the country).
- So that, after processing, ticks from the neighbouring territory do not creep into the site, you should negotiate with the neighbours and spray all the adjacent summer cottages.
- Treat the area no more than twice a year. Frequent spraying can badly affect the plants.
- Ticks can cling to humans during insect control activities. Therefore, after completing the work, you should thoroughly wash and wash your hands, and then check your clothes and skin for the presence of parasites.
- After 3-5 days, a "flag" test should be carried out to check the effectiveness of the fight against ticks.
How long can you not walk after processing
The drugs used to control ticks are toxic. Therefore, after processing, do not allow people and pets to be found in the treated area.
You can go out for a walk on the site no earlier than 3 days later. After this period, contact with poisonous grass and leaves is safe for humans. In case of urgent need, you can enter the territory for a short time after 3 hours. In this case, do not walk barefoot or touch the ground and grass with your hands.
Prevention of ticks in the country
You can reduce the likelihood of tick bites through preventive measures. These include:
- Timely lawn mowing, cleaning of debris, grass and dry foliage.
- Installation of a fence that prevents stray animals from entering the dacha.
- Fight rodents with poisons and traps.
- Placement of birdhouses on the territory of the summer cottage.
- Regular white flag tick testing.
- Mandatory processing of the site if a tick has settled on it.
- It is also worth planting a Caucasian, Persian or Dalmatian chamomile on the site. This plant is a natural insecticide.
The main measures for non-specific prevention of tick-borne infections
Since the vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis does not protect against other infections transmitted by ticks, it is correct to avoid contact with ticks as much as possible. For this you need:
- Dress properly in the forest. Pants should always be tucked into your socks.
- It is best to have a special anti-mite (encephalitis) suit.
- It is better to impregnate (spray) special clothing for the forest with repellents. It is better to shoot and examine it outside the house, so as not to bring the tick into the house.
- During our stay in the forest, we constantly conduct self-and mutual inspections in search of ticks on our clothes. We also look around after leaving the forest.
What dangerous diseases can you get through tick bites?
Ixodid ticks can be infected with several pathogens, depending on the region. Tick-borne diseases are natural focal infections and the prevalence of certain pathogens depends on the activity of the focus. Among these diseases:
- Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE)
- Ixodic tick-borne borreliosis (ICB) -Lime disease
- Human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HAG).
- Human monocytic ehrlichiosis (MEM)
